Gregory Raymond

Gibbons

1921-2007

A Rosary and memorial service is 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville for Gregory Raymond Gibbons, 85, who died Nov. 6, 2007, at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Gibbons was born Dec. 23, 1921, in Lowell, Mass., to George and Mary Gibbons. Mr. Gibbons was a high school graduate and received his associates degree. He served in the Army, attaining the rank of sergeant. He married Emma Florence Gibbons at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Lowell, Mass., Nov. 26, 1950.

He worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.

He was a resident of San Leandro, Calif., for 25 years before moving to Gardnerville 22 years ago.

He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and he was a member of St. Gall Catholic Church. He was famous in his family for his apple pies.

He loved listening to Irish music, bagpipes and marching bands.

His greatest joy was spending time with his two grandsons Matthew Gibbons Parra and Alexander Gibbons Parra. He enjoyed Saturday morning breakfast with his daughter and he had a great sense of humor.

Mr. Gibbons was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Florence Gibbons, Nov. 29, 2003, his parents, three sisters Rose Walker, Kitty Boisvert, and Louise Anglin; two brothers James Gibbons and George Gibbons.

He is survived by his daughter Ann and her husband John Alfred Parra of Gardnerville; brother Raymond H. Gibbons and his wife Ruth; two grandsons Matthew and Alexander Gibbons Parra as well as many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are in the care of FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville.

Lois Rabe Sarman

1921-2007

A funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Monday at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville for Lois Rabe Sarman, 86, who died Nov. 13, 2007, at Renown Hospital in Reno.

Mrs. Sarman, a descendant of early settlers and lifelong resident of Carson Valley, was born Oct. 22, 1921, in the house her grandparents, Chris and Sofia Rabe built on Mottsville Lane. Her father and mother, William and Elizabeth Rabe, continued the ranching operations in Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe.

Mrs. Sarman attended Douglas County High School and was on the girls' basketball team. She graduated in 1938 and continued her education at the University of Nevada, becoming a member of the Tri Delta sorority and graduating in 1942. During World War II she worked in Oakland, at the Army Supply Depot. On Feb. 1, 1945, at St. Gall Catholic Church, she married Edwin Sarman, who had also graduated from Douglas County High School and served in World War II as a radio operator in the Army Air Corps.

She was a charter member of the Carson Valley Literary Club, St. Gall Alter Society, the Cowbelles and the Farm Bureau. She enjoyed music and Broadway productions, home cooking and gardening.

After her parents William and Elizabeth Rabe died, Lois and Edwin ran the ranch that put up hay in the summer for their cow herd of 150 head. They raised seven children; Elizabeth and her husband Gary Woodbury of Elko; Mary and her husband John Stephans of Minden; Edwin and his wife Linda Sarman Jr. of Elko; Bill Sarman of Elko; Stan and his wife Kathleen Sarman of Reno; Paul and his wife Cynthia Sarman of Elko and Mike and his wife Melinda Sarman of Gardnerville. Mrs. Sarman is also survived by 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Ruth E. Wallis

1915-2007

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. today at FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville for Ruth E. Wallis, 92, who died Nov. 14, 2007 in Gardnerville.

Mrs. Wallis, a resident of Gardnerville for 18 years, moved here from Yucaipa, Calif., in 1989.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Clyde Wallis of Gardnerville; son David Wallis of Gardnerville; daughters Susan Roth and Debra Wallis both of Las Vegas; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are in the care of FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral home. Burial with a graveside service will take place at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden following the funeral service.

Pauline Eva

Maras Winberg

1924-2007

A Mass for Pauline Eva Maras Winberg, 83, is 8 a.m. Sunday at St. Teresa's Catholic Church in South Lake Tahoe. Mrs. Winberg died Nov. 14, 2007.

She was born Oct. 1, 1924, in Hibbing, Minn. After graduating from Buhl High School in Minnesota, she served as a Navy nurse in World War II. She married Roy Winberg in 1950 and moved to Grand Rapids, Minn., in 1955. The couple owned and operated Town and Country Florist from 1958 to 1987. They moved to South Lake Tahoe in 1988 where Mr. Winberg died in 1990. She worked at Harrah's Tahoe in the coatcheck/lost and found from 1990 until her retirement in 2005.

Mrs. Winberg is survived by her three sons and their families; Paul and his sons James and Peter of South Lake Tahoe; Fred, his wife Karen and their children Brandon, Chris, Bryonna and Austin of Gardnerville and Mark, his wife Pat and their children Michael and Jessica of South Lake Tahoe as well as her sister Mathilda (Tillie) Sandborn of Hibbing, Minn., and her dog Rusty.

The family will host a celebration of her life following the Mass from noon to 3 p.m. at the home of Mark Winberg, 1141 Juniper in South Lake Tahoe.
