The Douglas County Public Library in Minden hosts an evening with local authors, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Nov. 28. Children's book author Linda Chambers, children's book author Jim Darrough, ecologist and poet Craig Downer, author and musician Robert Frost, illustrator Helen Martin, cowboy poet Ken Gardner and mystery writer Frank Rocha will be available for book signing and discussion.
Chambers is a published poet who lives in Northern Nevada and whose favorite pastimes are painting, storytelling and gardening. Her books "A B C Poetry," "On the Farm" and "Cheroot" introduce new words and phrases to the young reader. Chambers' books are illustrated by wildlife and animal painter Linda Walker.
Darrough's family has been in Nevada since 1841. His outdoor experiences along with a love of teaching children have provided subject matter for most of his writing. His books, "The Pearl-Less Adventures of Ollie the Oyster" and "Little Blue" are both in print and on interactive CD-ROM.
Minden writer and ecologist Downer is an advocate for wild horses and mountain tapirs. He writes about the spirit of life in his book of poetry, "Streams of the Soul."
Frost is a goldsmith, songwriter, singer and musician who received degrees in psychology, biology and physics from the University of California at Santa Cruz. His published works include research on quartz crystals and other gemstones.
Martin's illustrations are featured in the children's book, "The Almond Heist," written by Kathy Mann. A lifelong sketcher and painter in a variety of media, Martin is a member of the Carson Valley Art Association and treasurer of the East Fork Gallery in Gardnerville.
Gardner is a participant in the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko and author of "Sleepin' in the Bunkhouse."
Rocha is the author of mystery novels, "The Scope of Death II: The Secret of Pine Summit" and "Life Beyond the Courtyard."
