Three Carson Valley students visited Merrill Gardens at Gardnerville on Nov. 11 to honor the many veterans who live at the retirement community.

Samantha Barns and Madison Vanderbyl are both seniors at Douglas High School and are members of the National Honor Society. They chose to do this community service project to honor those who have served our country.

The two students, along with Madison's sister Zoe Vanderbyl, an eighth-grader at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School, delivered red and white carnations tied with a blue ribbon to each of the veterans who live at Merrill Gardens at Gardnerville.

"Our residents greatly appreciated the time and effort these girls made to make this day special," said Merrill Gardens Community Relations Director Corneil Vacirca. "It was very meaningful to our residents to have the younger generation recognize the importance of their service to our country."

Merrill Gardens at Gardnerville is a retirement community offering active retirement living, assisted living and Alzheimer's and dementia memory care.

Merrill Gardens is located just behind the Carson Valley Medical Center at 1565-A Virginia Ranch Road in Gardnerville.
