Paul "Slick" Fontenot, owner of Tahoe-based Slick Racing, won the International Hot Boat Association's Top Eliminator class World Championship last weekend.
The IHBA held its 24th annual World Finals in Phoenix and Slick Racing entered the race No. 1 in points out of a 29-boat field after a season-long quest that took the team across the country.
Fontenot drove his injected alcohol hydro "I'm Back " Hot-n-Bothered" No. 669, qualified ninth with a 9.04-second run. As with every race this season, he clocked in as the fastest boat in the field at 130 mph.
The championship went down to the wire, where Fontenot remained No. 1 for the fourth consecutive race to win the IHBA World Championship.
Slick Racing is sponsored by Percival construction, Hatch electric, Carson Valley Transmissions, Kona-Hilo Harley Davidson, Hawaii Motorhead Magazine, Big Al's Cycle's & More, Auto Parts Depot, Inn Suites, The Lodge at Rolling Hills Casino and Vagabond Inn.
The team is considering stepping up next year to the IHBA Pro Eliminator Class.
