'Tis the season for pumpkins, scarecrows and haunted cemeteries and Carson Valley has several events coming up that celebrate the fall season.
Children can make their own scarecrows and pick out Halloween costumes at East Fork Gallery's Scarecrow Festival and Family Support Council Costume Patch, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in Minden Park.
More children's events can be found at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension's 4-H Fall Festival & Pumpkin Patch, 10 a.m. Ð 2 p.m., Saturday at Lampe Park in Gardnerville. The free event is also sponsored by Douglas County Parks & Recreation and Joe Benigno's Tree Service.
Corley Ranch hosts the Harvest Festival Extraordinary throughout October where more than 15,000 pumpkins of various sizes and colors will be available.
October activities at the ranch include a two-acre corn maze, pig races, straw bale maze, bouncy house, panning for gold, petting zoo, miniature horse rides, horse-drawn hay rides, vendors, live entertainment and refreshments.
Tickets are on sale for the Douglas County Historical Society's Haunted Weekend that includes tours in Gardnerville, Mottsville and Genoa cemeteries and a ghost walk in Carson City, Oct. 19-21. For information on the haunted weekend, call the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center at 782-2555.
