The Douglas High cross country team kept striding toward the upcoming regional championships Wednesday as Whintey Lindsey won the girls' league race at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno against Reno and Wooster.
Lindsey won in dominating fashion with a time of 20:09" 71 seconds faster than the closest runner " and junior Taylor Biaggi took third at 22:10.
"Whitney beat all of the Reno girls for the first time in a long time and that was great to see," Douglas coach Keith Cole said. "I am continually amazed by how strong Whitney is on the course.
"She went out faster today and covered her first mile in 6:15 and was able to maintain close to that pace for the remainder of the course."
Cassie Hood ran the course in 24:14, Sarah Allen ran it in 24:21, Anna Chiapella ran it in 24:50, Amber Emerson finished in 25:05 and Michelle Lampson finished in 25:43.
"The girls were excellent packing together," Cole said. "Between Hood and Emerson there was less than a minute for the race."
On the boys' side, Derrick Jenkins took seventh with a time of 18:44 and Seth White finished 10th at 18:46.
Corey Trujillo finished the race in 19:41, Brad Boyd finished in 19:42, Scott Lococo finished in 20:21, Eddie Kollar finished in 20:42, James Leonard finished in 20:45, Troy Shields finished in 21:49 and Pat Thielen finished in 21:40.
"The wind was blowing like mad and the course was muddy," Cole said. "The kids ran hard and it showed.
"Jenkins and White were neck-and-neck the entire race and between Trujillo and Leonard was only a minute. That's going to make us more difficult to beat as the end of the season approaches."
As a team, Douglas beat Wooster and lost to Reno in both the boys' and girls' races.
