Carson Valley theater enthusiasts can look forward to two plays featuring local talent this fall. Carson Valley Community Theatre production of "Steel Magnolias" will be performed Oct. 19-21 and Oct. 26-28. The Dakota Organization presents "The Nerd" on November 8-11.
The theater companies have discovered a diamond in the rough in the historic location of the CVIC Hall in Minden. The Town of Minden upgraded the CVIC Hall with new stage lighting and sound system this year.
"Steel Magnolias," a 1987 play by Robert Harling, is performed at 7 p.m. Oct. 19-21 and Oct. 26-28 and 2 p.m. Oct. 21 and 28.
Directed by Lucille Rao, the cast includes Victoria Grathwohl as Truvy, Chanden Tolbert as Shelby, Elizabeth Brissenden as Annelle, Ann Delahay as M'Lynn, Margaret Edson as Ouiser and Carolyn Lancaster as Clairee as bosom buddies in this story of life, love and loss in a small Louisiana parish.
The Carson Valley Community Theatre has produced "Blackjack Bottom" and a female version of "The Odd Couple."
Tickets for "Steel Magnolias" are $15 for general admission with senior, student and group (eight or more) tickets for $12. The Dakota Organization presents "The Nerd," a comedy by Larry Shue on Nov. 8-11. The former Broadway play is about a man wounded in Vietnam who is saved by a man he never saw. When the two are reunited, the unlikely hero is a nerd who never wants to leave and personalities clash with a vengeance.
The Dakota Organization has produced "Sylvia," "Same Time, Next Year" and "Lips Together, Teeth Apart" at the CVIC Hall.
"The Nerd" will be performed 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8, 9, 10 and 2 p.m. Nov. 10 and 11 at the CVIC Hall in Minden. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for seniors (55 and older) and youths (17 and younger).
