The Douglas High School girls' golf team posted a new season low with a team score of 422 Tuesday afternoon and it couldn't have come at a better time for the Lady Tigers.
Douglas took a commanding lead at the Northern 4A Regional Championships " a full 37 strokes over second place Spanish Springs " and freshman Bethany Wurster took the overall lead in the tournament after Day 1 with a 74.
Michele Nikkels shot a career-low 79 to come in third, Katie Gettman shot an 84, Heather Henderson shot a 90, Shelby Louie had a 95 and Katelyn Lee rounded out the card with a 116.
"I couldn't be more proud of these girls," Douglas coach Steve Gustafson said. "They went out today and impressed everyone. They hit fairways, hit greens and made putts, which was key.
"A lot of top players imploded, but our girls remained steady. They want the title and it shows."
The tournament concluded Wednesday afternoon. As soon as results are available, they'll be posted on www.recordcourier.com.
