The Douglas girls' golf team made a little bit of history Wednesday afternoon at Red Hawk golf course, claiming the school's first golf regional title in 15 years.

The Tigers shot a two-day total of 847, winning the tournament by almost 80 strokes.

Tiger freshman Bethany Wurster claimed the individual regional championship, shooting a two-day total of 147.

Wurster sunk birdies on the last three holes to charge ahead to the title.

Michele Nikkels and Katie Gettman also placed in the top six, each earning medals for their performance.

Spanish Springs took second as a team, and both the Tigers and Cougars will compete next week in Las Vegas in the NIAA 4A State Championships.

Douglas has never won a state golf championship.
