Joy Ann Barker


1944-2007


A private family memorial service will be Wednesday for Joy Ann Barker, 63, who died in Gardnerville Oct. 13, 2007, following a 13-year battle with breast cancer.


Mrs. Barker was born May 14, 1944, in Covington, Ky., to Fred and Eleanor Blaut. She lived in Cincinnati, Ohio, for 35 years before moving to Gardnerville. She spent many years working for General Electric Aircraft Engines in Cincinnati as a secretary and spare-parts order entry clerk.


Mrs. Barker is survived by her husband Ken Barker of Gardnerville; her daughter Kimberly Semsel of Kansas City, and her son Jeffery Barker of Dallas.


Arrangements are in the care of FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville. The family requests any memorial donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.




Owen Earl Hearold


1917-2007


Owen Earl Hearold, a 39-year Gardnerville resident, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007. He was 90 years old.


Mr. Hearold was born on Aug. 11, 1917, in Beardstown, Ill., the son of Clyde and Flora Hearold. He grew up and attended schools in Illinois. As a young man he moved to Sacramento where he worked for the Western Pacific Rail Road for two years, after which going to work for a sawmill near Sly Park, Calif.


In 1941 he joined the United States Army, serving in World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1945. On Jan. 5, 1946, he married Thelma White in Reno. The couple lived in California, and later settling in Gardnerville in 1968. Mr. Hearold started Silver State Truss Co. in Gardnerville in 1970, retiring in 1985.


Mr. Hearold is survived by his wife Thelma Hearold; sons Norman L. Hearold and Raymond L. Hearold; daughter Karen F. Blummer all of Gardnerville; brother Verne L. Hearold, 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
