About 700 acres of that was once part of the oldest continuously owned family ranch in Nevada is now in public hands. The U.S. Forest Service took control of the hillside north of Genoa once owned by the Adams family. Greg Painter, who is developing Eagle Ridge above Jacks Valley Road, arranged for the transfer, which was completed on Sept. 27. An old logging road connects the Valley with the land and could become the first direct connection between here and the Tahoe Rim Trail.

Last time I mentioned Fidel Fuentes, a passenger in a vehicle that rammed a Washoe Tribal Police unit after a chase through northern Carson City and Indian Hills on March 12, he was facing sentencing on a gross misdemeanor for possession of a stolen weapon. Fuentes denied the charge but admitted that the authorities could probably prove at least one of the more substantial charges against him. When he failed to show up for sentencing on Sept. 26 a warrant was issued by Judge Michael Gibbons. Two weeks later he was arrested and is sitting in Douglas County Jail. Today's hearing deals with the warrant, but we may also learn if the plea agreement survives.

If you made it through all that you deserve to hear about what a nice day it's going to be. Too bad it's going to be mostly cloudy with a chance of rain through Wednesday. This morning should be reasonably nice, and there is only a little chance of rain today. Tuesday night is when the chance gets up to 50 percent, or roughly the same odds of winning at blackjack. Today's high will get up to about 65, according to the National Weather Service, the lows will be in the upper 30s thanks to the cloud cover.
