After the first day of the Nevada 4A State Girls' Golf Championships, Douglas held a slim six-stroke lead over second-place Silverado, carding a team 463 compared to the Silverhawks 469.
The good news, however, was that two of Douglas' top players, Bethany Wurster and Michele Nikkels, struggled on the first day, meaning that the two have a shot to drop their strokes on day two on the par-72 Canyon Gate Country Club Course.
Wurster still led the Tigers, shooting an 89 to come in 13th overall. Katie Gettman wasn't far behind with a 90, good for 16th, and Heather Henderson stood in 17th with a 91.
Shelby Louie finished with a 93 to tie for 20th and Nikkels shot a 100 to take 28th.
Katelyn Lee shot a 115 and stood in 43rd.
Coronado's Bethany Glassford and Bishop Gorman's Jennifer Hahn were tied for first at 79 and Carson's Lydia Peri was the top finisher from the Northern 4A, coming in tied for fifth at 83.
Played concludes Tuesday afternoon, and the results will be posted on www.recordcourier.com.
