The Douglas High boys' and girls' cross country teams picked up a big win in the final conference meet of the regular season Wednesday afternoon at Hug.

The Tiger boys' had an exceptional afternoon, seven of the top 10 spots against Hug, Manogue, North Valleys and Fallon.

The girls' were equally successful as Whitney Lindsey broke the course record by 1:22 to take first and Douglas took six of the top 10 spots for the win.

"The kids ran really well today," Douglas coach Keith Cole said. "Whitney was totally dominating on the course. She has won every meet this season, except one, and has really become the top runner in the north."

Taylor Biaggi took fourth with a time of 20:21 for the Douglas girls and Cassie Hood (7th, 22:07), Amanda Boyd (8th, 22:18), Sarah Allen (9th, 22:37), Anna Chiapella (10th, 22:48) and Amber Emerson (11th, 22:57) rounded out the Lady Tigers' card.

"I really think the best performance of the day was by Hood, Boyd, Allen, Emerson and Chiapella," Cole said. "They all finished within 50 seconds of each other and won the meet for us.

"They ran together for the majority of the race and passed people as a pack. It was great to see and really puts us in a great position for the regional meet next week."

On the boys' side, Derrick Jenkins took second (17:29), Seth White took third (17:32), Corey Trujillo finished fourth (17:47), David Williams finished sixth (18:13), Brady Boyd took seventh (18:21), James Leonard finished eighth (18:32) and Scott Lococo came in 10th (18:43) to complete a dominating afternoon.

"Jenkins and White continued their leadership for the team," Cole said. "They have been battling each other all season for the top boys' runner and today was no different.

"It is really great for us, because it makes both of them faster and pulls the rest of the boys' team along with them.

"I have really been impressed with Trujillo in the last few weeks. His times have really been dropping and his mental toughness on the courses has become evident."

Next up for Douglas will be the Northern 4A Regional Championships at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno.

The girls' race starts at 4 p.m. and the boys' go at 5 p.m.
