Volleyball: Tiger spikers sweep Hug, set up title match with Reno

Aces were the name of the game Tuesday night as Douglas recorded an impressive 25 of them in a three-game sweep of Hug in the Tigers' home finale.


Douglas honored its four seniors, Allie Hughes, Bridget Maestretti, Alyssa Todd and Mary Lombino, prior to the match and then proceeded to dismantle the Hawks 25-6, 25-10, 25-11.


The Hawks worked the score to within two at 8-6 early on, but Douglas exploded on a 17-0 run to close out the opening game.

The Tigers stayed hot in the second game, extending the total run to 26-0 by jumping out to a 9-0 lead.


Taryn Williams finished with seven aces, Lombino had five, Hughes had four, Maestretti had four, Jourdan Burke had three, Christine DuPuis had one and Todd had one.


Burke led the Tigers with five kills, three blocks and two digs, while Maestretti added four kills, three blocks and three digs.

Hughes finished with 17 assists, four digs and one block.


Douglas improved to 30-4 overall and 12-1 in league play, setting up a league title match against Reno Thursday night.
