Smoke from the Southern California fires obscured the mountains in Carson Valley this afternoon and could be worse on Friday.
The fires, which have burned half a million acres and destroyed 1,800 homes.
As the Santa Ana winds abate, breezes out of the west will begin to bring more smoke into Western Nevada.
