The Douglas High School athletic department enjoyed a remarkable final day of the regular season Thursday, getting huge team and individual performances across the board.
In the afternoon, Tiger senior Whitney Lindsey became the school's first-ever female runner to win the regional individual cross country championship at the Northern 4A Regional Championship meet at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno.
Lindsey ran the championship course in 20:07.92, beating South Tahoe's Kelsey Smith by 18 seconds.
Just two hours later, and not too far down the road, the Douglas girls' volleyball team walked into the Reno High School gym and walked back out with the Sierra League title in their hands after topping the Huskies in a five-game thriller.
It marked the seventh time in eight years that the Tigers won the league volleyball title.
And to cap off the night, Tiger senior tailback Brock Peterson rushed for 343 yards, believed to be a school record, and three touchdowns as the Douglas football team throttled archrival Carson 48-20.
Peterson's total is the most recorded in The R-C archives and beat the previous high, (270 yards, John Ithuburu, against Whittell in 1965) by 73 yards.
Douglas also rolled up more than 500 yards of total offense in the win.
