The Douglas County Historical Society's lecture series continues 7 p.m. Thursday, at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville. This month's topic is the California ghost town of Bodie by Terri Geissinger who will speak in the character of one of the town's inhabitants.

A resident of Smith Valley and Bodie, Geissinger is an historian, guide and Chautauquan dedicated to preserving stories of the pioneer families, miners, ranchers and teamsters.

Leading the Bodie Area Resident Research Project, Geissinger advocates preserving area heritage by collecting stories of Bodie's early days and relating them in the Chautauquan style in classrooms, during tours and in special events.

The historical society presents free lectures the second Thursday of each month. The museum and the Main Street Book Store will be open following the one-hour lecture. Information, 782-2555.
