Lorne Bruce Currer
1914-2007
A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Walton's Douglas County Mortuary in Minden for Lorne Bruce Currer, 92, who died Aug. 24, 2007, in Gardnerville.
Mr. Currer was born Sept. 17, 1914, in Toronto, Canada, one of five boys, to Martin and Bessie Currer. In 1927, the family moved to Yonkers, N.Y. and then in 1931 they moved to Glendale, Calif. He worked as a caddy at Griffith Park, saving enough money to purchase two Mobil gas stations. He received his U.S. citizenship in 1942 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force the next day. His time in the service was served in Africa and France. He received the Bronze Star while he was there. After the war he came home and started a career in banking and married Julia Clezie, a marriage that would last over 50 years. He retired from banking as vice president at Bank of America. He became a resident of Gardnerville three years ago.
Mr. Currer was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Clezie. He is survived by his sons Bruce Currer of Spokane, Wash., Jon Currer of Spring, Texas, his daughter Lori Roe of Gardnerville, six grandchildren Stefani, Staci, Blaine, Christopher, Catlin, Nicholas and one great-grandchild Rudy.
Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Douglas County Mortuary in Minden.
