Members of the Carson Valley Photo Club focused on patterns this month, and the results were stunning.
Local photographer/artist Pam Brekas took first place with a digital shot of a row of old concrete benches and their shadows taken on a motorcycle trip in the Mt. Rainier area of Washington.
Brekas, a repeat winner, lives in Minden and has served as president of the Nevada Artists Association.
The efforts of a husband-wife team caught the judges' eyes for second- and third- place honors. Second place went to Ray Moore for his colorful photo of a row of tent tops taken at the California State Fair in Sacramento. Joanne Moore's picture of a boy descending a rainbow-colored slide, also at Cal Expo, won third.
Club member Lynda Chen'e discussed the advantages of shooting in the manual mode versus using a camera's automatic settings.
The Carson Valley Photo Club meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Douglas County Public Library. The club also plans several photo field trips. For more information about the club, call president Dave Colon, 783-8600.
