Sertoma Oktoberfest


Oktoberfest comes to Carson Valley from noon to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, as Sertoma presents its 17th annual German festival in Heritage Park in Gardnerville, Free admission, live music from Al Gruber and the Bavarian Band, free dance floor and free parking.


Authentic German cuisine, special Oktoberfest beers will be available all afternoon on the green, rain or shine. Many crafters, and events for the whole family. Information e-mail bobcutts@verizon.net.




Historic Play in Genoa


"The Curse of the Hanging Tree" is today and Saturday. Remember seating is limited, so get your tickets early at the Genoa Court House Museum in Genoa or the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville. Performances are today at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. and Saturday 6:00, 6:45 and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person. Information 782-2893.

-- The Bank presents karaoke hosted by Alex Smith on Tuesday nights and has open mic on Thursday nights, hosted by Dean Brownell with a variety of instruments including rhythm and lead guitar, keyboards, bass guitar and congas. Brownell is both a lead and a backup singer. Come play solo or accompanied by others. Bring your instruments.


-- Tony Sanders is back at The Bank Parlor & Pub 6:30 -10:30 p.m. on Friday with music from the 50s through the present. Carson Valley Inn entertainment


Kristen Lee appears through Sunday and various duos entertain on Monday nights. Cabaret Lounge live entertainment is presented with no cover and no minimum in 45-minute shows at 7:30, 8:30, 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 p.m.


The daughter of a singer/songwriter, Georgia-born Kristen Lee has been singing since the age of three. She and her band play everything from Patti LaBelle to Led Zeppelin. Lee's band is Joe Cook on guitar and vocals, Edward Watson, keyboards and vocals; John Senchuk, bass; and Noah Hungate on drums.


RetroActive takes the Cabaret Lounge stage Tuesday and plays until Sept. 30. RetroActive features a repertoire of rock, pop and soul from the past five decades, along with some country, jazz, reggae and the popular hits of today. The group's four talented musicians/singers create a rich sound, exciting performances and thick vocal harmonies.

Mountain Music at Villa Gigli


Jazz guitarist George Hanepen will be on deck for dinner guests Sunday at Villa Gigli, 145 Hot Springs Road, Markleeville. Owners Gina and Ruggero Gigli no longer accept reservations, and they now offer an a la carte menu.


Guests may arrive anytime between 5 and 8 p.m. Pizza is featured on Saturday and pasta on Sunday evenings.




Acoustic Jam at Eddy Street Book Exchange


Local musicians are invited for an acoustic jam, 2:30 - 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30 at the Eddy Street Book Exchange.


Musicians of any acoustic instrument of any level of experience or those who don't play but want to sing along are welcome. If you would like to play and have some songs you'd like to share, bring copies of the lyrics, chord or tab sheets.

-- Entertainment at the Inn. The 3 Blonde Moms comedy show returns to the Carson Valley Inn Shannon Ballroom for performances on Friday and Saturday nights, Nov. 9 and 10. Doors open at 7 p.m. show starts at 8 p.m. This high-energy, semi-scripted, PG-13 standup comedy show is packed full of hysterical material about being a mom, having a mom, kids, schools, husbands, in-laws and more. Tickets are $25 in advance at the Carson Valley Inn Gift Shop ($1 service charge for will-call or mailed tickets). Tickets for both shows are $30 after Thursday, Nov. 8. As with all Carson Valley Inn sponsored events and shows, INN Club members can use their points for tickets for "3 Blonde Moms" - ask at the INN Club booth.
