Douglas enrollment drops by 93 students

Douglas County schools lost 93 students, according to figures released by the district today. In 2006-07, schools enrolled a total of 6,848 students, compared to only 6,755 this year.

However, total enrollment for elementary schools in the Valley has remained the same. Last year, the Valley's six elementary schools enrolled 3,191 students. This year, the schools enrolled exactly the same number, 3,191 students. Gardnerville Elementary lost two students, but CC Meneley gained two students. Jacks Valley Elementary lost 10 students, but Pinon Hills Elementary gained 10 students.

The biggest drop in enrollment was in the Valley's middle schools. Carson Valley Middle School lost only six students from its previous 824. But Pau Wa Lu Middle School lost 91 students from its previous 676.

It has been 14 years since enrollment has been lower. In 1993, the school district had 6,697 students. In 1994, 7,031.

Douglas High School increased in enrollment by 42 students, increasing its student population to1,564.
