Sharkey's General manager Bernie Curtis is leaving to take over the state Division of Parole and Probation effective April 14.

Curtis' last day at Sharkey's is April 11.

"I didn't give myself much time between jobs," he said. "This one is going to be quite a challenge. I'm lucky to have good people to work with at the division of parole and probation."

Curtis said he accepted the job on March 27.

He said he's looking forward to the new job, but knows there's a lot of work ahead.

"We've got some things to face with the upcoming 2009 session and the legislative audit that wasn't satisfactory," he said.

The long-time Carson Valley resident was appointed general manager of Sharkey's in January 2007 after his return from a stint as Elko County undersheriff.

Curtis worked for the Douglas County Sheriff's Office from 1972 to 1994, attaining the rank of undersheriff before he retired. He went on to serve two 4-year terms as a Douglas County commissioner. He has worked for Holder Hospitality Group as director of government relations from 2002 until 2006 when he went to Elko. While in Elko, he continued to consult with the company and when he returned to Gardnerville was hired to manage Sharkey's.
