The Douglas High boys' golf team stayed hot to start the Sierra League season, winning its second-consecutive tournament Monday at Wolf Run Golf Course.
"Although golf is an individual sport, it is also fun to compete as a team," Douglas coach Brent Eddy said. "Finishing in first for the second week in a row is a great accomplishment for the kids."
Damonte Ranch's CJ Gibson fired a 76 to take individual honors, but Douglas' Cody Hines finished tied for third at 78.
Douglas finished with a team score of 406. Carson took second with a 408, Reno finished third with a 414, Damonte took fourth at 424 and South Tahoe, Wooster, North Valleys and Hug rounded out the standings in order.
Thomas Wicker and Eric Guzman were right on Hines' heels with a 79 each. Troy Shields shot an 80 and Trevor Wentz carded a 90.
"It was great to see the scores in the 70s," Eddy said. "Cody Hines really stepped up his game as he had a career day shooting a 42 on the front and an even par 36 on the back.
"Eric, Thomas and Troy had solid rounds as well."
Douglas competes at Sierra Sage next week.
