Charter Cable went down at 4:45 p.m. Friday after four service poles in Washoe Valley near the entrance of Washoe Lake State Park were wiped out by an 18-wheeler.

The poles carry lines that provide cable television services to the Washoe Valley, Carson City, Fernley, Fallon, Minden, Gardnerville, Dayton, and South Lake Tahoe areas and have rendered those services non-operational.

For about five hours, all cable services including video, high speed data, and telephone are affected. Internet service returned to parts of Carson Valley by 9 p.m.

Charter Communications representatives said supervisors and technicians have been dispatched to the area and are surveying the damage and begin repairs.

Because the poles also carried electrical lines, repairs were delayed until they could be de-energized by Sierra Pacific Power Co.
