An orientation meeting for prospective volunteers or anyone interested in learning more about the Court Appointed Special Advocate program of Douglas County will be 5 p.m. Wednesday, and 10 a.m. April 18.
Both meetings will be held in Douglas County District II Courtroom on the second floor of the Judicial & Law Enforcement Building and will last approximately one hour.

Senior assistance applications due
Nevada offers a Senior Citizens Tax Assistance and Rental Rebate Program to persons at least 62 years of age on or before June 30, 2008, and whose 2007 total household income including Social Security was $27,863 or less.
Applicants must have lived in Nevada continuously from July 1, 2007.
This program applies to any person meeting the age, residency and income requirements.
Applications are available at the assessor's office, 1616 Eighth St., Minden, and must be submitted no later than April 30. Call 782-9830 for information
Senior network hosts celebration
The nonprofit Senior Service Network is hosting the 10th Anniversary Senior Celebration 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 24 at the Carson Nugget Ballroom in Carson City.
The event is a screening, health and information fair with raffle prizes and giveaways.
One free raffle ticket and the free commemorative canvas bags will be given away to the first 750 seniors. Pianist Big Tiny Little will perform compliments of Merrill Gardens in Gardnerville.
Movies in the Park returns this summer
The Town of Gardnerville is hosting the third season of Movies in the Park held at Heritage Park in Gardnerville. Sponsorship from Valley businesses will allow the event to go despite the financial crunch. Sponsors are Bodywise Physical Therapy, Burger King, Carson Valley Accounting, Carson Valley Medical Center, Colonial Bank, Mark Smith Tire Center, Re/Max Realty Affiliates and Studio Vogue Salon.
Vendors for Movies in the Park are The Carson Valley Lions Club, and Cold Stone Creamery Papa Murphy's Take N' Bake Pizza.
Movies for this season are: "The Goonies," "E.T.", "Citizen Kane" and "Meet the Robinsons."

Price of an Elks' taco up to a $1.50
The price of a taco at the Minden/Douglas Elks Lodge monthly taco night has gone up to $1.50.
Previously a dollar, the tacos are one way the Elks raise money during the year for their many good works.
The fundraiser is usually 5-7 p.m. the fourth Thursday at the lodge, located at 1276 Pit Road in the Gardnerville Ranchos. That will be April 24 this month.
The Elks' pancake breakfast is the following Sunday on April 27.
Breakfast is served 8:30-11 a.m. on the fourth Sunday of the month and costs $5.50 for adults and $3 for children.
