After two first-place finishes to open the season, the Douglas boys' golf team stayed in the mix of the Sierra League title race with a third-place finish at Sierra Sage Monday.
Douglas carded a team score of 413, one stroke behind second-place Damonte Ranch and 18 strokes behind tournament champ Carson.
"The day did not go as well as we would have liked as a team," Douglas coach Brent Eddy said. "We give a lot of credit to Carson and Damonte Ranch " they showed up and played well today. In order to compete as a team in this league, you have to shoot in the low 400s to high 390s and today we were not there."
Douglas sophomore Thomas Wicker came in third with a 73 behind Damonte's CJ Gibson and Carson's Zack Rispen, who tied for first at 72.
"Thomas is one of the best golfers in the north and it is nice to be able to count on a consistent score in the 70s every week," Eddy said.
Douglas also got a solid round from Troy Shields, who shot a 78.
Cody Hines and Eric Guzman shot an 85 and 86 respectively and Trevor Wentz rounded out Douglas' card with a 91.
Douglas next plays at the Washoe Golf Course on Monday.
