Softball: Douglas zips past South Tahoe

After plugging away at the South Tahoe Vikings for two runs over the first three innings Thursday afternoon, the Douglas Tigers broke things open in the fourth.


Douglas pounded out five hits for seven runs in the frame on its way to a 10-0 win in Sierra League play in Minden.


Marina Diaz got things going in the inning, reaching on an error with one out and advancing to second on the throw.


Rebecca Trute singled to bring Diaz home and Donna Judd reached on another error.


Emily Weaver singled to bring Trute home and Lauren Hoppe later doubledto bring two runs in. Katrina Morgan was hit by a pitch and Hoppe scored on a passed ball thrown to Stephanie Harper.


Harper then singled to score Morgan and Mia Townsell, running for Harper, later scored on a Morgan Blomstrom single to left.


Hoppe and Blomstrom each had two RBIs on the day while Weaver, Morgan. Harper, Trute and Townsell each finished with one.


Harper was stellar in the circle for the Tigers, striking out seven, walking one and allowing just one hit in the shutout win.


Tahoe's Cindy Lucero picked up the Vikings' only hit of the afternoon on a sharp single to left with two outs in the top of the third.


Kelly Bartlett struck out one and walked two in taking the loss.


The Tigers improved to 13-5 overall and 7-3 in league play with the win. The two teams will meet in a doubleheader at the Lake Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
