Please donate, but don't dump

There is a very large sign outside the Walker Thrift Store and Recycle Center that states "Unlawful to deposit any donations when thrift store is closed."

It also lets people know that it a misdemeanor offense to do that. Unfortunately, some people must think they are pretty cool when they pile their items under this very sign when the store is not open. The thrift store and recycle center truly value and appreciate your donations and assistance with their goals for seniors in the valley. They just want people to obey the law, as well as not leaving items that can be stolen or vandalized.

The current hours of the store are Tuesday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Please come during those times and help them meet their goals, and please don't be one of the pictures on their surveillance cameras after hours.

Supervisors meet

The board's evening meeting at the Walker Community Center last night took place after this column's deadline, so I'll try to fill you in on the happenings and topics next week, if you couldn't make it to the meeting.

Trout fishing

The Topaz Lodge's fishing derby concluded last Sunday, with many fisherman out on the lake in the beautiful weather we had. I hope they were able to win a nice prize. Trout season Saturday, April 26 on the West Walker River, so be ready.

I can hardly wait to go down to the river and try to catch a bigger fish than Mike does!

Fish fry dinner

The Northern Mono Chamber of Commerce is hosting this dinner on Friday, April 25, to kick off the trout season on the river. The dinner will be at the Walker Community Center, so please come to see your friends and meet some new people.

This and that

-- Plan ahead for the Mountain Warfare Training Challenge May 17. The evening before, there will be a spaghetti dinner for race participants and the public at the MWTC Club. Live music will start at 5:30 p.m. with dinner, raffle and bonfire starting at 6 p.m. During Saturday's race, there will be local vendors, a bounce house, Walker River Colorguard performance, fishing pond and mule rides to keep you busy.

-- In a Little League update, the Coleville Marlins won their game last Tuesday 14-9. In their game on Thursday, there was a little glitch, and the lights on the fields went out before the games were through. I don't know yet how that will turn out on their record.
