Swimming: Tigers split with South Tahoe

The Douglas High School swim teams earned a split with South Tahoe at the Carson Valley Swim Center Friday as the girls' team beat the Vikings 174-105 and the boys' team lost 139-96.


The girls earned a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 free as Paula Sigala (1:02.23), Chandra Matheson (1:06.24) and Molly Lahlum (1:07.86) took the top three spots.


Paula Sigala won the 200 free in 2:18.24 with Sarah Tigh taking third and Haley VonSchottenstein won the 50 free in 26.37 with Lahlum takingthird at 30.21.


Sarah Koontz earned a pair of second-place finishes, swimming 2:37.78 in the 200 IM and 1:16.08 in the 100 fly.


VonSchottenstein also took second in the 100 back, followed by Marisa Bertolone-Smith in third.


Virginia Evans took third in the 200 IM, Rebecca Chappell took third in the 100 fly and the 500 free and Matheson took third in the 100 breaststroke.


The 200 free relay team of Koontz, VonSchottenstein and the Sigalas took first with a time of 1:53.89 while Lahlum, Tigh, Anna Jackson and Bertolone-Smith teamed up to take third in the event.


The 400 free relay team of Julie Pozun, Ashley Spohn, Cassandra Lopez and Sarah Allen took first with a 3:40.98 and Kali Evanson, Matheson, Chappell and Cassie Parr teamed to take second.


Koontz, VonSchottenstein and the Sigalas took second in the 200 medley relay and Betolone-Smith, Allen, Jackson and Evans took third.


On the boys' side, Taylor Brockway (200 free, 2:00.51) and Colby Cain (50 free, 24.71) took individual wins while the two combined with Shawn Stubnar and Eric VanBuege to win the 400 free relay in 3:58.36.


Cain also took second in the 100 backstroke, VanBuege took second in the 100 fly, and Marco Hyman took second in the 100 breaststroke.


Hyman and Brockway took second and third in the 500 free, Stubnar took third in the 50 free, Ryan Dykes took third in the 200 IM and Kevin McAdoo took third in the 200 free.


Cain, Hyman, VanBuege and Brockway teamed up to win the 200 free relay in 1:40.39 and Stubnar, Dykes, Hyman and McAdoo won the 200 medley relay.


Douglas next hosts North Valleys Saturday in a dual meet at the Carson Valley Swim Center beginning at 10 a.m.
