A Johnson Lane man has announced he plans to run for Douglas County commissioner. Architect Stuart L. Posselt, 72, is a five-year resident of Carson Valley. He is a Republican and supports the growth ordinance compromise that will be presented to voters. He is running for the District 5 seat held by Commission Chairman Kelli Kite.

Controller Ron Terrell has been named the new general manager of Sharkey's by Holder Hospitality. The announcement came Friday during a farewell party for former manager Bernie Curtis. Terrell has worked for Sharkey's for about two years. The U.S. Air Force veteran has bachelor degrees from both the University of Nevada, Reno and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he graduated from the College of Hotel Administration. Terrell said no changes are planned for the casino, which is presently on the market. Owner Hal Holder attended the celebration at Sharkey's on Friday.

I refreshed the site three times, but the National Weather Service is still predicting snow flurries for this morning. As unlikely as I find that prediction, I believe the high temperature will be lucky to crack the predicted 52. There are a few cool ice sculptures where sprinklers have hit the trees. The winds knocked a tree over onto Kingsbury Grade last night near Tramway. The road was cleared without having to be closed. Weather watcher George Uebele reported a gust of 53 mph in Sheridan Acres on Monday.
