Harlan Ernest

Casebier

1923-2008

A funeral service is 1 p.m. today for 21-year Gardnerville resident Harlan Ernest Casebier, 85, who died April 15, 2008, in Carson City. A viewing is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today.

Born March 16, 1923, in Topeka, Kan., to Ernest and Myrtle Casebier, he was a printer and typesetter. He married Margaret Elaine Scott in September 1947 in Topeka, Kan.

A member of the Masons, the American Association of Retired Persons and the Carson Valley Food Closet, he enjoyed gardening and golf.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine, on April 18, 2007, brother Louis in March 2008; sister Phylis; his mother and father.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Scott and Billie Casebier; grandson and granddaughter-in-law Stephen K. and Nicole Casebier of Gardnerville; granddaughter and son-in-law Robin L Casebier and James Hart of Las Vegas and five great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in Eastside Memorial Park after the funeral service. FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home.

Carl John Odekirk

1928-2008

A graveside service with full military honors is 10 a.m. Saturday in Salt Lake City for retired Lt. Col. Carl John Odekirk, 79, of Gardnerville. Lt. Col. Odekirk died April 15, 2008.

Born June 13, 1928, in Blackwell, Okla., to Warren and Elsa Odekirk, he graduated from several colleges with three bachelor's degrees and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He married Colleen Mecham on March 14, 1957, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Lt. Col. Odekirk served 30 years in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1978. He returned and received a bachelors of arts in education and taught school for several years in the Azores for the Civil Service. He loved to do woodworking projects.

Lt. Col. Odekirk was preceded in death by his parents and a son.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years; sons Roger (Judy) Odekirk of Salt Lake City and Russell of Gardnerville; daughter Sheree (Larry) Reed of Longmont, Colo.; brother Jerry (Lorene) of Salt Lake City; sister Sharon of Salt Lake City; four grandchildren, Grace and Matthew Reed and Marcus and Rebeca Odekirk.

Services are at Ft. Douglas Veterans Cemetery in Salt Lake City.

Local arrangements are entrusted to Walton's Douglas County Mortuary in Minden.
