Where do you go for guidance when life's decisions are before you? The older I get, the deeper the decisions I seem to face. Of course, life is full of times when we all need guidance. Life is full of times we must ask, "What is the right thing to do? What is the right way to go?" So where do you go for your guidance?
Some call into radio shows to seek moral counsel. Others write to the latest advice column. Still others go to a wise old grandparent. Although good advise is found in many places, there is one place that will always give you godly counsel. The Bible.
Psalms 119:105 "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path."
When life becomes unclear, when the path you are on is not always visible. I have found that the word of God, the Bible, gives illumination for whatever I face in this world. If there are moral decisions to be made, God's word has some definite instructions for us.
Micah 6:8 "He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."
God has revealed in His word what He requires of every person. That we act in justice, extend mercy and live humbly before Him. Of course humility before God is where true spiritual life begins. As you submit your life to God, as you acknowledge his Son, you will begin to have God's heart.
Matthew 23:12 (Jesus said) "For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted."
New life, life with God's spirit, begins when you submit to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, humbling yourself before God and being lifted up by God.
When life is hard and you are living for God, again His word, the Bible, gives us some awesome instructions.
James 1:2-3 "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance."
Joy in times of troubles? How can you have joy? James says, look beyond the trials. Don't look only at the troubles you face, but consider the result that comes from them - perseverance, maturity and greater faith. Have you humbled yourself before the Savior? Are you able to look to his word for comfort and guidance?
When you are looking for answers to whatever you face in life consider the words of Jesus.
Matthew 7:7-8 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."
Seek God in prayer, come to him in humility and this promise is that you will find. The door will be open and you will find God's hidden treasures. We began this article with one of my favorite Bible verses that speaks of the word of God as a lamp to our feet, and a light to our path. Where are you stepping? Where are you going in life? Direction and guidance are found in the amazing word of God, the Bible.
