Track & Field: Tiger girls take 2nd at Chico Invite

The Douglas High girls' track team continued its strong season over the weekend with perhaps its strongest statement yet " a second-place finish at the West Valley/Chico Track Invitational.


The Lady Tigers scored 57 points, coming in behind hosting West Valley, which scored 70 points. Among the schools in attendance was Northern 4A powerhouse Reno High.


Sarah Hartley took third in the 400 at 1:01.1 and sixth in the 200 at 26.96.


Nicole Mehrer took fifth in the 400 at 1:02.44 and Susie White took seventh at 1:03.49.


Jessica Gorton was fourth in the 100 high hurdles at 16.59 and sixth in the 300 low hurdles at 48.86. She also took fourth in the long jump at 17-02.


Mehrer, Hartley, White and Bridget Maestretti took second in the 4x400 at 4:14.70.


The teamed cleaned up in the triple jump as Mehrer took second (34-2), Gorton took third (34-0), Hartley took sixth (33-1.25) and Natasha Brown took seventh (32-7.75).


Jessica Waggoner was third in the discus at 115-08 and fourth in the shot put at 36-06.


Freshman Kyra Barth took third in the high jump with a leap of 5-00 and took 24th in the 100 high hurdles at 18.75. Maestretti was seventh in the high jump at 4-10.


Taylor Biaggi was 10th in the 3,200 at 12:26.13 and 12th in the 1,600 with a 5:37.28 while Amanda Boyd (5:49.48) was 17th and Amber Emerson was 20th at 5:53.99.


Boyd also took 14th in the 3,200 at 12:37.21.


The 4x100 team of Barth, Whitney Bullion, Samantha Cobb and Nicole Duster took 12th at 54.05.


Brown took 15th in the 200 with a 27.96. Brown was seventh in the long jump at 15-11.5, followed by Liz Nickles in eighth at 15-9.5.


Emerson (2:41.51) and Gina Pfaffenberger (2:42.48) took 24th and 25th respectively in the 800.


Cami Arend tied for 15th in the high jump while Bullion took 19th.


Arend and Maestretti tied for 18th in the pole vault.


Derrik Jenkins won the 800 in 1:59.03 while Brad Boyd took eighth at 2:02.29, Seth White took 17th at 2:04.70 and James Leonard took 20th at 2:06.02.


Jordan Cruz took ninth in the 200 at 23.16 and Jake O'Farrell took 12th in 23.20.


Luke Wartgow was eighth in the discus at 132-0 and 35th in the shot put with a throw of 39-1.5. Barron Santiago took 43rd in the event.


Curtis Hartzell took 15th in the 100 with an 11.77.


Johnny Pollack took 29th in the 110 high hurdles and Ryen Ake took 15th in the 300 intermediate hurdles. Pollack was 24th in that event.


Boyd took 16th in the 1,600 at 4:41.31, followed by Seth White in 19th at 4:43.52. Robert Shawhan was 50th in the event.


Davey Fisher tied for 17th in the high jump at 5-8.


Scott Lococo took 21st in the 3,200 and Corey Trujillo took 31st.


The 4x400 team of Boyd, Leonard, Hartzell and Jenkins took fifth in 3:34.17 and the 4x100 team of Cruz, Sean Derbyshire, Santiago and Jake O'Farrell took 13th with a time of 45.59
