People came in fancy hats, listened to live music and enjoyed champagne, cucumber sandwiches, desserts and tea at the St. Gall Women's Society's Best of Yesterday High Tea in the church's pastoral center on Saturday.

"It was an absolute wonder," said event chairwoman Pat Cardinal. "There were 28 tables that were decorated by individuals and groups who supplied their own dishes and themes.

"We had fewer than last year but it made more room and made it easier to walk around and look at the tables."

More than 200 tickets were sold to the reception, which is the main fundraiser for the St. Gall Women's Society. Guests listened to music by Frank Benvenuto on flute and Mary Margaret Niebuhr on harp.

A quilt donated by Myrna Morris was the raffle prize won by Christine Santucci.

Guests voted for their favorite decorated tables. First place went to Mary Bogart, second place to Betty Larrouy and third place to Cindi Supko and Cheryl Anderson.
