Mike Maloney stopped in at the museum to say that his band, All Hat, No Cattle, will be performing noon to 3 p.m. May 3 at the opening of the Genoa Court House Museum. All Hat, No Cattle will also perform for the Taste of the Towns in August.
The Young Chautauquans will perform 5-8 p.m. June 18 and 19 at Mormon Station State Historic Park. Bring the family, enjoy a picnic supper and the free entertainment at this annual event. These talented young people will be portraying characters like Jacqueline Kennedy, Walt Disney and Joan of Arc.
Beginning in May, the Young Chautauquans are available to perform for your club or organization. If you would like to schedule the Young Chautauquans for an upcoming event, call Grace Bower at 782-2555.
The annual membership meeting of the Douglas County Historical Society is 7 p.m. May 15 at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville. Members will vote for president, vice president and treasurer for the historical society. If you are a member, please vote. These are your museums and you should have a voice in who manages them.
One upcoming event you will not want to miss is the Douglas County Historical Society's Art and Wine Festival, 4-8 p.m. July 19 at the Gardnerville museum. There will be fine art, wine tasting, music and food booths set up in the parking lot and lawn.
This is a juried art show and artists are asked to submit an application now to reserve a 10-foot by 10-foot space for their original work. Space will be reserved on a first come, first served basis. For information or an application, call 782-2555.
The Taste of the Towns event is Aug. 2 and this year the Taste of Gardnerville has expanded to include Minden and possibly Genoa. Come enjoy the food at even more of our amazing local restaurants and All Hat, No Cattle as well.
Submit photos of whatever April in Douglas County means to you to the historical society by April 30.
For information about anything mentioned, call the Douglas County Historical Society at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center at 782-2555 or go to historicnevada.org. Remember, DCHS and its museums receive no regular state or county funding. It's up to our members and friends to help us keep our doors open.
