Heading intothe final week of league tournament, the Douglas boys' golf team is poised to clinch a spot in the regional championships.

Douglas took fourth at the Sierra League tournament at WildCreek Tuesday, led by a second-place finish from sophomore Thomas Wicker.

The Tigers now sit second in the Sierra League standings with 29 points behind Carson (36).

"Although we have not been playing as well as we would like as a group, we are still making progress and moving toward our first goal, which is making it to the regional tourney," Douglas coach Brent Eddy said.

Wicker shot a 76, coming in behind Carson's Zack Rispen (70).

Freshman Aaron Allen was a surprise for the Tigers in his first varsity tournament, shooting an 89, while Eric Guzman and Trevor Wentz each shot a 91 and Cody Hines shot a 97.

"Aaron came out of nowhere," Eddy said. "It is nice to see a kid make as much progress as Aaron has. Throughout the year he has continued to keep improving and he finally got his shot and he took advantage of it."

Carson won the tournament with a 388, Reno (425) was second and South Tahoe (444) was third.

Douglas needs to finish fifth or higher at the final league tournament at Silver Oak next week to clinch a spot at regionals.
