Anton Anger was named Mr. DHS on Friday night at Douglas High School for his Shakespearean soliloquy and tap dance.

The second annual Mr. DHS competition, organized by Douglas High leadership and sponsored by A Gourmet Sewing Company, raised more than a $1,000 for future leadership classes and senior graduation night.

"The event went very well. It was only the second year, and we had at least 250 people attend," said Douglas High English teacher and leadership coordinator Karen Lamb. "The participants did a great job. We have such talented, intelligent and funny kids here."

Five other seniors competed with Anger: BJ Hubbard played guitar and sang, Jake O'Farrell recited beatnik poetry, James Lanier sang, Seth White played piano and sang and Luke Huff sang opera and danced.

Participants were judged not only for their talent, but for a swimsuit exhibition and a pick-up line contest.

Veteran government teacher Randy Green, who is retiring at the end of the year, emceed the event along with teacher Keith Cole.

"We had a special moment for Mr. Green where we gave him a shirt with 'The Original Mr. DHS' on it and thanked him for his 30 years of service," said Lamb. "Mr. Cole will continue on with the tradition."

Judges were Assistant Principal Becky Rugger, math teachers Larry Lippmann and Pete Mazzeo, counselor Vanessa Ozolins and cheerleading coach Kerry Munk.

"It is just another occasion where I am extremely proud to be part of this school and this community," said Lamb. "Leadership students spend hours creating opportunities for other students to be involved and enjoy their time here at Douglas High School."
