Douglas Wrestling, after having 15-plus wrestlers at the Reno Worlds 2 weeks ago, maintained a strong off-season momentum by taking 15 wrestlers to the Pavilion at UC Davis last weekend to compete at the 2008 Brute West Coast Nationals.

The high school brackets were thick with talent, quite a bit of which came from Douglas.

Three Douglas wrestlers reached the championship finals, Nico Barker, Timmy Souza, and Dillon Spates all had crucial victories which put them in the finals.

All three took home second-place awards.

Douglas also saw strong fourth-place finishes from Wes Peterson and Michael Sepulveda.

Steve Anderson and Joe McDonald each brought home fifth-place medals and Kyle Mathews took sixth to round out the Douglas placers.

Douglas had great efforts from Justin Freeman, Nick Prudhomme, Cameron Jorgensen, Chris Pahe, Zach Falanga, Daniel Lundegreen, and Austin Martin. Douglas was the largest team from Nevada at the tournament.

Closing out the off-season, Douglas is competing at the Oklahoma State University Team Dual Camp in Reno July 20-24.
