More than 70 underprivileged children benefited from the Sierra Nevada Active 20-30 Club of annual shopping spree on Saturday.

Event co-chair Jacquie Manoukian said the group's goal was to supply school clothes for 60 children, but they had 11 additional, including four from Austin's House.

The majority of the children were recommended by the Family Support Council and Douglas County Social Services.

"Our goal this year was to provide clothing for 60 children," said Manoukian.

"Because of the community's phenomenal support, we were able to take all the children on the waiting list as well."

According to Marisa Casarez, the event's other co-chair, donations rushed in via the club's Web site and their goal was not only met, but exceeded, allowing assistance to the additional 11 children.

The annual fundraiser was held with the help of the Carson Valley Active 20-30 Club and the Carson City club.
