A 17-year-old Minden resident was found dead Sunday in his bedroom, possibly of an accidental drug overdose.
Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jim Halsey said the cause of death is pending a medical exam and toxicology report, but deputies believed drugs were the cause.
The victim was found by his mother at 1:45 p.m. when she went to his bedroom to awaken him. She told deputies she called paramedics to the residence in the 1500 block of County Road after she found her son sitting in a chair at his computer desk.
She said he was unresponsive and cold to the touch
In addition to the computer and keyboard on the desk, deputies found a marijuana water-smoking pipe with a lampshade on it, a rolled up $20 bill, a plastic bag with a white and brown substance, a plastic bag with marijuana and a glass pipe.
Investigators said the substance may be methamphetamine or heroin.
The youth's mother said she suspected her son had been using drugs since November when one of his friends overdosed. She told deputies her son had never attempted suicide, and she did not believe him to be suicidal.
She told deputies she last saw her son at 11 p.m. Saturday when he went to his bedroom for the night. She found his body when she went to awaken him.
