Blood drive today

A blood drive organized by Douglas High School senior Nick Hales as his Eagle Scout project is 1-7 p.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 891 Mahogany Drive across from Douglas High School.

Fundraiser at New Rancho Grande

The New Rancho Grande Mexican restaurant is donating 10 percent of Saturday's sales beginning at 6 p.m. to the Carson Valley Xtreme Youth 13 girls soccer team. Donation boxes will also be available at the restaurant.

Money raised goes to team uniforms and tournaments. The restaurant is at 1404 Highway 395 in Gardnerville. Information, coach Jeremy Rutherdale, 901-1067.


Swap meet Saturday

The Douglas County Historical Society's next swap meet is 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville.

More swap meets are planned for Aug. 23, Sept. 13 and Sept. 27. Information and booth space applications at www.historicnevada.org or the front desk of the Gardnerville museum. Information, 782-2555.


Sertoma bingo Saturday

Carson Valley Sertoma Community Bingo is at the Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville. Doors open at 11 a.m., early bird at 12:30 p.m., regular session at 1 p.m. Progressive blackout will be $750 with 59 numbers or less. Drawing for raffle prizes. Coffee and popcorn provided. Smokey's birthday party Saturday

Museum lecture series continues

Sue Ballew, president of the Carson City Historical Society, will portray women of the West, 7 p.m. Aug. 14, at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville.

The free lecture series is sponsored by the Douglas County Historical Society. The museum and bookstore are open before and following the one-hour lecture. Information, 782-2555.


Main Street Event is Aug. 15-17

The Valley Cruisers 21th annual Main Street Event begins with check-in, street dance and barbecue dinner, 6-10 p.m. Aug. 15, on Esmeralda Avenue, Minden.

The event continues in Lampe Park with a show and shine at 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 16 and a poker run, swap meet and car corral beginning at 7 a.m. Aug. 17. Awards presented at noon Aug. 17.
