Executive Director Jenney Sartin's contract was terminated by the board of the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce and Vistor's Authority effective Sept. 8.
In a prepared statement, the chamber's board of directors said they voted to end Sartin's contract with 30 days notice.
"The Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitor's Authority Board of Directors has decided to explore a different management direction," the statement said.
Chamber President Sam Slack said the decision was made at the chamber board's regular meeting on Wednesday.
"We put a great deal of time and thought into the decision, and a lot of conversation took place," Slack said. "We wish her nothing but the best."
Slack said it would not be appropriate for him to comment on why the chamber board decided to cancel Sartin's contract, which would have continued had the board not made a decision.
A search for a new executive director for the organization will begin in September.
Until a new director can be found, chamber board members will assist in the day-to-day operations of the organization. Slack said the chamber may hire an interim director.
He declined to say what the position paid.
"It depends on experience," he said. "It has varied widely over the past three years."
Sartin was hired as executive director on July 1, 2007, to replace Skip Sayre.
She previously served as public information officer for the Clark County Nuclear Waste Division. She also served as executive director of the Community Associations Institute.
Sayre served as executive director for about three years before leaving for a casino job in New Mexico.
