Don Rogers, publisher of the Record-Courier and former

editor of the Vail Daily, will return to Colorado as that paper's associate

publisher effective Aug. 25.

Rogers announced he was leaving The R-C on Friday.

He will replace Alex Miller, who is moving to

Summit County, Colo., to be the editor of the Summit Daily News.

Rogers, who was editor at Vail from 1999 to 2007, left last December to take

a job as publisher with the Gardnerville paper. Rogers said it was a great

experience but is looking forward to returning to Vail.

"My family had not yet made the move to Nevada, and I visited often. So in a

way I never really left," Rogers said. "I got the chance to experience the

Daily more as a regular reader, and I think that gave me valuable insights

that I would not have from the inside. And working in a new place has given

me fresh perspective. I love this community and the vital role the Vail

Daily plays to help make it a better place."

Vail Daily Publisher Steve Gall said Rogers will take on an expanded role as

associate publisher and editor.

"We're excited to have Don back in Vail," Gall said. "He brings a lot of

knowledge of this area and true passion for the newspaper and the

community."

Miller said he returns the Daily to Rogers' care in the same strong shape he

left it.

"Don built a great community newspaper here over the years, and now that

he's got experience as a publisher, I'm sure the community can expect even

better things from the Daily," Miller said. "I'll miss all the wonderful

folks at the Vail Daily as well as the dynamic community of Eagle County,

but I look forward to a new challenge over in Summit County."
