The Suicide Prevention Network of Douglas County is co-sponsoring a three-mile walk Sept. 13 in memory of people who have died from suicide.
About 30 people joined the inaugural Walk in Memory, Walk for Hope last year, and organizer Jodi Wass is hoping 50 people will turn out this year.
Participants are to meet at Heritage Park in Gardnerville at 8 a.m. for registration. The walk, along Highway 395, begins at 8:30 a.m. with an opening ceremony.
The Carson Valley walk coincides with events in Elko, Las Vegas, Reno and Hawthorne.
The walk is sponsored by the Douglas County group, the Nevada Coalition for Suicide Prevention and the Nevada Office of Suicide Prevention.
Cost is $20 per person and includes a T-shirt. Teams of at least three can register for $15 per person.
Participants can register online at www.active.com. Look for the Walk in Memory-Walk for Hope 2008 link. Registrations will be accepted at the event.
Any proceeds from the event will be returned to Douglas County to the Suicide Prevention Network. The group holds a survivors' support group meeting at 6 p.m. the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Partnership of Community Resources in Gardnerville.
For information about the walk or the support group, contact Wass at 450-2826, or the Partnership at 782-8611.
