Crews working the Silver Creek fire had a good day Wednesday and have a line 99 percent around the 680-acre blaze burning near Pickel Meadows.
Silver Creek Fire Information Officer Bob Narus said firefighters hope to get the other 1 percent done by Saturday.
Narus said fire behavior was low on Wednesday and that most of the burning was in the interior of the fire.
"Crews will continue mop-up operationsw and patrolling for spot fires," he said.
Firefighters are concerned that predicted winds could cause the blaze to pick back up.
Winds of up to 35 mph are expected across the ridgetops.
More than 300 people are fighting the fire, including seven handcrews, a dozen engines, two helicopters and six water tenders.
Routes in the area of the fire, including Silver Creek Road and Highway 108 across Sonora Pass will be closed.
