Mop-up operations and fire line rehabilitation are the focus today on the Silver Creek Fire as Whalen's Type 2 Team prepares to turn over response to the Bridgeport Ranger District on Saturday.

Officials said the 680-acre fire is 99 percent contained. The fire is approximately 1 mile west of the U.S. Marine Mountain Warfare Training Center and 4 miles west of the intersection of Highway 395 and California Highway 108 at Sonora Junction.

As the weekend approaches the public should be aware that some resources will be demobilizing and traveling on local highways.

Closure remains in effect for all areas, roads, and trails in the area.

Public access is restricted starting at the junction of Silver Creek Road and Highway 108, west on Highway 108 to Sonora Pass, then north to Sonora Peak, following the Mono County-Alpine County boundary to the Silver King Trail (031), then following the Silver Creek Road (32059) southeast back to the junction of the highway.

Resources at the site today include five hand crews, seven engines, two helicopters, four water tenders and 52 overhead for a total of 180 personnel.
