A 32-year-old Indian Hills man was sentenced Aug. 19 to four years in Nevada State Prison and fined $2,000 for possession of cocaine.

Joseph Glovan must serve 16 months before he is eligible for parole.

He asked District Judge Dave Gamble for leniency so he could spend time with his daughter who was born while he was in prison.

"I'm at a point in my life where I can't make any more excuses," Glovan said. "When I got out of prison, it was the first time I'd seen my daughter. Now I see what I'm missing. I'm tired of being in the darkness. I want to be in the light."

Gamble said he couldn't overlook the fact that Glovan was paroled in December and committed the offense in May.

"I can't get past that you got paroled in December, found out who this little person is, then did what you did to her and her mom. We're 0-4 here. We've done everything we could. You're on your own. Fortunately, our drug court accepts people on parole," Gamble said.

Glovan was arrested May 16 following a traffic accident at Highway 395 and Topsy.

Witnesses saw him toss an item out the window that turned out to be cocaine.

Prosecutor Tom Gregory said he believed Glovan planned to distribute the cocaine.

Coupled with his prior criminal history, Gregory said Glovan deserved prison.

"My hope is that you take advantage of drug court when you get out, and this will be the last time you leave your daughter," Gamble said.

n Charges were dismissed Aug. 21 against two men in connection with a fistfight that broke out after a Genoa Town Board meeting May 6.

Prosecutor Tom Gregory said he dismissed the charges against Les Kynett, 64, and Christopher DeSocio, 48. The two men were to appear in East Fork Justice Court on Thursday.

"After talking with both of them, it was in everybody's best interest to dismiss the charges," Gregory said.

Both men had denied the allegations. Had they been convicted of affray, the two faced up to six months in Douglas County Jail and a $1,000 fine.

Douglas County deputies were called to the town meeting hall to investigate a fight that reportedly broke out between the men after the town board adjourned.

DeSocio is the husband of Genoa Town Board Chairwoman Kitty DeSocio.

Earlier in the evening the two men were involved in a brief argument when Kitty DeSocio threatened to have Kynett removed from the meeting for being disruptive during a Candy Dance debate. Kynett continued to talk after the chairwoman asked him to stop.

After the meeting adjourned, Kynett crossed the room and confronted DeSocio.

Kynett said he told DeSocio not to interrupt him during a meeting.

Kynett ended up with a tattered shirt and DeSocio had a bloodied face.
