The wind is already blowing as a red flag warning is in effect for Carson Valley until 8 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Wether Service.
Hot dry air out of the southwest will increase to 10-20 mph with gusts of up to 35 mph by midday today with a very low humidity of 5-10 percent. High winds are expected to produce waves on Lake Tahoe of 3-4 feet high.
Gusty winds will continue through the night along with very low humidity, making for hazardous firefighting conditions. Gusts of up to 35 mph are expected until the cold front rolls through on Sunday evening.
The front will bring substantially cooler temperatures, including highs in the lower to mid-70s on Sunday. Winds will subside on Labor Day, but temperatures will remain below normal. The weather service is predicting freezing temperatures Monday and Tuesday in South Lake Tahoe.
