Holbrook home fire knocked down

Firefighters reported stopping a blaze at a home in Holbrook Junction at 12:22 p.m. They are working to douse hotspots in the fire which is no longer threatening surrounding vegetation.

The fire was reported at about 11:20 a.m. by a neighbor. Firefighters from Topaz, Carson Valley were joined by those from Lyon and Mono counties and the U.S. Forest Service in battling the fire in a 3,000-square-foot home at 3244 Highlands Way.

Getting water to the fire was a challenge because there are no hydrants. Water tankers rolling into the scene from three different counties.

Firefighters are ordering up water tenders from surrounding jurisdictions to battle a blaze in a home at 3244 Highland Way above Holbrook Junction.

The home is located on the hillside above the community in southern Douglas County near the intersection of highways 395 and 208.

Firefighters on scene are evaluating the chances the fire, which has claimed half the 3,000-square-foot home, will spread to surrounding trees.

The fire was reported at about 11:20 a.m. by a neighbor. When firefighters arrived shortly afterwards, they found the roof, garage and a vehicle inside on fire.

Because there are no fire hydrants in the area, water has to be trucked in. Water tenders from East Fork, Mono, Lyon and the U.S. Forest Service have been called to aid in the fight.

According to the Douglas County Assessor's Office the home belongs to Stuart Mills and was built in 2003.

Firefighters are on their way to 3244 Highland Way in Holbrook Junction.

Personnel on scene reported a 3,000 square foot multiple story home about a quarter of the way burned with flames showing.

Firefighters from south county, Carson Valley and Mono County are being requested to reinforce initial responders.

The fire was reported at about 11:20 a.m.
