No one was hurt when a Holbrook Junction home was severely damaged in a two-alarm fire this morning.

Neighbors reported heavy black smoke coming from the home's garage at about 11:16 a.m.

At least one neighbor tried to get into the home at 3244 Highland Way to see if anyone was inside.

When East Fork firefighters arrived they found flames burning the garage, which is below the home. They began fighting the blaze from the outside of the home, because the second floor had collapsed into the garage.

Firefighters entered the home's living quarters in search of the occupants, but they were away at the time of the fire. The work inside the home prevented the fire from destroying the structure. Firefighters continued to work outside the home to keep the fire from spreading to surrounding pinon pines.

East Fork Fire & Paramedics District Deputy Chief Steve Eisele was the incident commander on the fire which saw units from

Antelope Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Smith Valley Volunteer Fire Department, United States Forest Service and the Douglas County Sheriff's Department assisted East Fork Fire and Paramedic Districts on this fire, according to Deputy Chief Dave Fogerson.

Since there are no hydrants in the area, water had to be brought to the scene by tanker truck.

They were refilled from an East Fork Fire District water tank at Highway 395 and Highway 208.

Fogerson said the cause of the fire is under investigation. He reminded residents to check the batteries in their smoke detectors.
